Painting my winter wonderland

I vividly remember those times when it was snowing in abundance during my childhood. The moments we spent outside as children sledding, building a snowman, having a snowball fight, or just simply enjoying this magical time of the year. It was a massive snow, which didn’t melt away overnight. We could enjoy it for months, and I loved every moment of it, even the shovelling part.

Then I grew up, and years later I changed countries. Here in the UK, we experience mild winters with less snow if at all. For me, winter here seems like early spring, I even look forward to the first snowdrops from early January.

Being a winter person is essential to me to live this experience fully when I can. This year I missed the snow so much that I needed to take action. The idea was that I would make my nights cosy and paint winter landscapes. Then I displayed the paintings on the wall, creating my kind of winter wonderland. I was never into painting winter landscapes, so I started with some Skillshare classes (details in the image description). It was the best present I could give to myself: creating, learning and enjoying my time. Now that I can admire my snowy scenes, I’m still hoping for some real snow this winter.
